Jacob

During my free time, I have found different activities which I feel inspired. Art is one of them.
Combining colors, shapes, materials, and textures is a way that has allowed me to express myself through my imagination, as well as to communicate messages, which are not always understood, but are still there waiting to be found. "Nothing we use or hear or touch can be expressed in words that equal what is given by the senses." (Quote by-Hannah Arendt.)

My work:
I have always loved to cut and paste creating different shapes in a collage. This is why I made this work. I found an interesting face which I liked in a magazine, his eyes made me think that the color pink would perfectly match because of the sight and color tone they have. So I took out the man´s hair and cut it into abstract shapes, each piece different from the other. As I glued them, they all had their own surrounding space and uniqueness. I also cut and glued black pieces of magazine that are camouflaged with Jacob´s hair. Then, I found in another magazine a pink flower, which I cut as well and used its pieces gluing them all around Jacob´s head, combining them with what was left of his hair.

Reflection:
Everything I did in this work was to cut and glue in a paper. The hardest part was to locate each piece in order to create sort of a collage but trying to make everything fit so that it looked beautiful. I believe the interesting part here is the combination of the colors in Jacob´s atmosphere, and every figure that surrounds his head. Jacob has no hair left in his head, the
only thing we can see is his face, which represents life´s simplicity and pureness. The rest
is  now "blowing in the wind", but still there, floating around him. All his thoughts, memories
                                                                                           dreams, fears, and aspirations...

Tingarum tree...

Picture

The old Tingarum tree is the story of a man and a magical tree he felt in love with. He felt protected every time he  stepped under her, or near her, and there was a special thing about Tingarum. She had hidden eyes no one could see, but the man who´s face is under the old tree. He spent there for days, waiting to discover what was it that made him feel so magical just by feeling the power of Tingarum´s presence. He was a lonely man, and Tingarum a tree who´s instincts were to send him love, to nurture him with love...

Reflection:
I felt very inspired with this work of mine, because I never had a concrete idea of what I wanted to draw, but as I thought in a magical story, my imagination flourished. I never thought on how I wanted my work to look at the end, and I realized sometimes it´s better that way. To let it be. The idea of love, and the embrace Tingarum gives to the man reflects many human life phases. When people are living a hard time, when they feel they don´t belong, or when they wish to be loved by someone that understands them. "Just cause you feel it, doesn't mean it´s there."-Radiohead

Red Pupil.

Picture
My work:
I drew this eye with a pencil, and making different tones with it I made some parts look darker than others, as shadows. I also used a black color pencil for some of the eye designs, which are mainly in the eye´s borders. There is also the color red, which represents passion, love, and protection. This eye can be seen from different perspectives, each provides another impression although its the same eye.

Reflection:
I spent a while drawing this eye, because I really knew how I wanted it to look at the end. The reason why I drew it is because I had a dream not so long ago, and in my dream I found myself in San Pablo´s lake drawing an eye. I don´t know if it looks similar to the one of my dream, but it is still symbolic to me, not only because it is an eye which may represent a lot, but because the color red is important to me. It´s also  meaningful in many cultures. Many kids are protected with a red bracelet from negative vibes, and from malicious sights. This is why my eye has a red pupil which symbolizes the good intention through human sight.
